AnTara The Space Between Album Launch
On Thursday 5th November 2015, unique duo AnTara will be launching their debut album The Space Between in the gorgeous Bello Bar Dublin.
This album celebrates the duo’s exploration of the spaces in-between the traditions of Irish traditional and Indian Classical music. Both regarded as pioneers on their chosen instruments and fearlessly inventive, they create a diverse yet cohesive musical experience.
AnTara features Matthew ‘mattu’ Noone on the traditional Indian 25 stringed lute called a Sarode, and Tommy Hayes on the bodhrán. Mattu is an ex-indie rocker and well-known performer of the sarode, having studied North Indian Classical music in Kolkata under Sougata Roy Chowdhury or almost a decade. He was a founding member of The Bahh Band and collaborated with Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill in a recent tour of India.
Meanwhile, Tommy Hayes has performed and recorded with most of the great names in traditional music and beyond and has been to the fore in Irish music for over 30 years. He was a founding member of traditional group Stockton’s Wing and is considered one of the greatest bodhrán players of his generation.
AnTara was formed after Matthew was awarded funds from Music Network Ireland to design and purchase a hybrid sarode for collaborations within the Irish music tradition. The project draws upon the slow lyrical style of East Clare music as well as Indian drones, a plethora of percussion and experimental acoustic loops.
The Space Between represents a culmination of years of work, and we look forward to presenting it to you on what will be an extremely special evening in Bello Bar on 5th of November.
