RiZA is the latest project by the dynamic Congolese guitarist/singer Niwel Tsumbu. “A truly exceptional guitarist” allaboutjazz
After a decade in Ireland, Tsumbu is well known for his versatility and virtuosity, having played and collaborated with the likes of Sinead O’Conor, Glen Hansard, Liam O’Maonlai, Baaba Maal, Donal Lunny, Donal Dineen and many more.
RiZA features Niwel’s long-time collaborator Eamonn Cagney (of Treelan) on percussion, Emma Garnett (Feather) and Sallay Garnett (Loah) on vocals, and Paddy Groenland (Ensemble Ériu, Manden Express) on guitar. Their debut album is due later this year.
RiZA is a celebration of life and an exploration of space, weaving the rich tapestry of African rhythms with contemporary pop music’s harmony and composition, and drawing inspiration from our solar system and the space time continuum.
Welcome to RiZA.
